A Private Lesson is one-on-one instruction with one of the coaches. Each Lesson runs between 15 and 20 minutes and allows fencers to receive instruction and corrections that are 100% specialized to themselves. Lessons are scheduled during open-bouting times at the club.
Required Equipment: The required equipment for a lesson is exactly the same as the class that the student is enrolled in. Beginners must provide a jacket and glove, plus chest guard for female fencers. Intermediate/advanced fencers must wear a full uniform for lessons.
When are lessons available: Lessons are scheduled during open-bouting hours at the club.
How it works: During open bouting, the coach giving the lesson will either claim one of our full-size strips (the fencing playing field), or if none are available, one of our practice strips and administer lessons on that strip. When a fencer is scheduled for a lesson, the coach will call over that fencer and work one-on-one with the student either from a set curriculum, or working off any questions the student may have.
Lesson Benefits: Lessons are highly recommended, especially for competitive fencers. During a lesson, the coach can focus on specific difficulties that a student may have. The lesson also allows the coaches to introduce new techniques, outside of the class curriculum, that may benefit the student.
Cost: $25.00 / Lesson
The following is a list of the (approximate) open-bouting times that are available for lesson scheduling
Any fencer who is enrolled in an intermediate/advanced program that includes lessons will be given priority to any time listed above when scheduling their regular lessons. Once you are enrolled, you will be contacted by Coach Safko to provide your top three selections for lesson times. We will try our best to accommodate all preferences/limitations when establishing a lesson schedule.
Once a regularly-scheduled lesson is assigned a day and time, that schedule is reserved for you for the remainder of that session. There are three scheduling sessions as follows:
Session 1: January 1 – May 31
Session 2: June 1 – August 31
Session 3: September 1 – December 31
You may contact Coach Safko to change your reserved day and time during a session.
