Fencing for Adults

Whether you’re looking for a new hobby, a way to get exercise, a place to meet new people, a competitive outlet, or all of the above, we’d love to have you. Join our large community of adult fencers and learn to fence at Modern Duelists!

A Program Built for Adults

As adults, it’s easy to feel like sports aren’t meant for us. Youth and teen programs are everywhere, with the push to start early and peak early—adults, we’re told, are too late. Even when adult programs are offered, they’re often treated as an afterthought, with fewer class times, less coach attention, and little opportunity for competition.

Not at MoDuel. While we offer programs for all ages, our adults are the heart of our community, training diligently together to make each other better. Some are here for fun and for exercise; some are training for national medals. Regardless of your goals, our coaches—and our community as a whole—are here to help you achieve them.

Training for adults is offered five days a week, with additional opportunities for individual lessons, competitive training, and competitions hosted at our facility.

Fence With Us!

Ready to get started? We can’t wait to have you! Take a look down below to get an idea of what it’s like to learn to fence with Modern Duelists.

Start by Taking an Intro to Fencing Class

Never fenced before? That’s okay! Neither has almost anyone who signs up for our Intro to Fencing program. Over the course of two months we’ll teach you everything you need to know about fencing. You’ll learn how to stand en garde, use footwork, attack, hold and maneuver an epee, think strategically—and, most importantly, how to fence an actual match. By the end of the program you’ll be ready to move up to higher level classes and even fence in local level competitions.

Next, Join Us for the Senior Training Class & Open Bouting

We hope you’ll fall in love with fencing after the Intro class! If you do, your next step is to move up to the Senior Training Class. This is our main class for adult and teen fencers of all levels; even our most advanced fencers still attend this class to work alongside their more novice teammates and help them improve.

To practice the skills you learn in class, make sure to come to Open Bouting, too. During open bouting, the floor is open to fence matches against as many of your teammates as you’d like. For most fencers, this is the best part!

Still want more?

We never require our fencers to move up to a competitive level, and plenty of folks are here just for fun. For those who do want more, here’s what lies at the next levels.

Take Private Lessons

Work one-on-one with a coach to get instruction tailored to you, your body, and your fencing. Want to make progress quickly? Private lessons are the way to go.

CompEte

Fencing has competitions for all ages and all skill levels, even beginners! Even if you don’t have dreams of glory, competing is a lot of fun and a great way to fence new, challenging opponents.

Join the next Level of Classes

Our Competitor and Pre-Competitor Classes are tailored towards fencers competing at the highest levels—or the fencers who want to be.

Become A Champion

Remember, it’s never too late! Whether you’re starting at 20 or 70, if you’re willing to put in the work we’re willing to help you train to your highest potential.
